WNPT Nashville Public Television is producing a series called Next Door Neighbors, which examines Nashville’s growing role as an immigrant destination. The first two installments were on the Kurdish and Somali communities, and WNPT asked me to produce these HDTV-compatible maps for the episodes.

I created these maps for an exhibition on the extensive trade interconnections in the Mediterranean world and beyond during the second millennium B.C.

When NAMA published in 2008 the first update to its Handbook in fifteen years, they asked me to create this series of four maps to introduce the various sections. I took the opportunity to employ a technique for creating natural-color maps, in which the map's palette is based on ground cover (grassland, desert, etc) rather than the more common method of using elevation to determine the map's coloration.

I created map illustrations of Yale Medical School's planned West Campus expansion, for use as cover and editorial illustrations in Yale Medicine magazine.

Wieden+Kennedy worked with me to create a basketball-themed layer for Google Earth as part of ESPN's "Your NBA Destination" advertising campaign.

The layer consists of custom artwork, 3D models, and tons of so-called "placemarks" representing historical trivia, player hometowns, team arenas and as well as a couple of easter eggs.

This map, for a text panel in the Ancient Near East galleries at the Metropolitan, shows the Parthian homeland and empire in the third century BCE.

The Asia Society commissioned me to create a series of maps for a school curriculum on the history of Islam in Southeast Asia.

We developed political, physical shaded relief, and thematic maps for each of the following regions: Eurasia, southeast Asia, and the Indo-Malay archipelago.

Local Projects, in collaboration with CityLore, is developing City of Memory, a map-based interface to an archive of stories about New York City. City of Memory is scheduled to launch in late 2006.

I created the dynamic mapping backend using a combination of open-source geospatial software and public-domain data, as well as more traditional cartographic illustration software.

Brent Edwards, professor of English at Rutgers University, and a cultural historian of jazz, asked me to produce some maps illustrating important locations in the downtown New York jazz scene of the 1970s. This period is sometimes known as the "loft movement."
